From the team that brought us Lux Foundry in Brunswick, comes East Ivy. Located beneath a contemporary apartment in the north east of Melbourne’s CBD, East Ivy takes its name from the affluent suburb it’s situated in. Moreover, the Ivy actually appears in the cafe, with a creeping Ivy wall feature that conceals the kitchen.
The fit out has a New york loft feel, with exposed ductwork and pipelines, concrete flooring, and industrial lighting. The walls are lined with topographic tiles that feel like gel, and the button tufted bench seat are upholstered in a dark green fabric that compliments the Ivy wall. The Solid concrete counter is adorning with freshly baked muffins, and an assortment of sweets from Little Bertha.
Coffee by Proud Mary, and they offer both the Humbler blend, and a rotating single origin. Today’s single origin offering was the Guatemala La Esperanza, which is a washed caturra from the Huehuetenango region. My long black had flavours much like chocolate coated sultanas. They also do Vietnamese style coffee.
The menu is loaded with local sourced ingredients, and offers some typical Melbourne favourite with an East Ivy spin Breakfast features the Grilled seasonal mushrooms with fontina, Sicilian spinach, & pine nuts, and the East Ivy Benedict with slow cooked spiced pork shoulder. Lunch options include Southern fried chicken ribs with ranch dressed apple slaw, and Szechuan dusted calamari salad with daikon & lychee.
