Loco is not just an Elsternwick cafe, buts its a Glenhuntly Road institute. Along with several other Melbourne cafes, such as Sir Charles and Einstein’s 251, the Coffee Culture Communication Group brought Loco last year, and the takeover has resulted in a change in Coffee Supplier. They’ve done away with the Wega machine and 8oz blend, and brought in Hawthorns favourite son, Axil Coffee, and a sleek La Marzocco GB5.
The cafe itself has had a facelift since my last visit, but still held onto its Industrial chic fitout. They still have the industrial lights along the wall, and hanging globes with exposed wires. The venue now has a clean fresh feel, with glossy white subway tiles, and a white coffee counter that’s replaced the old recycled timber counter.
In tune with the Jewish community that reside in the surrounding Suburbs, the menu has a Middle Eastern spin, and features Mushroom Hummus with poached eggs and Dukkah, the Loco Smashed avo with grilled halloumi topped with zaatar, and the Middle Eastern open Lamb wrap.
Coffee of the day was a washed Colombian, which had delightfully smooth caramel nuances, with soft honeydew highlights.
Crazy for coffee? Lets go Loco!
