Left Field

When you consider the brains behind this new Carnegie venue have named previous endeavours ‘Tall Timber’, ‘Touchwood’, and ‘Short Straw’, its name is anything but ‘Out of Left Field’.

The idiom brigade have struck again, and now the south eastern suburbs have their very own cleverly named cafe. I literally work around the corner, and over the past few months have watched this corner spot transform from a pink run down building, which previously housed an Indian restaurant; into a stylish cafe that looks as though it’s been transported in from Prahran. Its set among residential houses, and a stones throw from the sizable Packers Park and Velodrome.

The fit out is elegant, with lots of timber and pastel coloured tiles.

They’ve brought over Ryan, the head chef from Tall Timber, who has created a plentiful menu, with lots of fresh seasonal ingredients. All day breakfast options include Smashed Avo on Quinoa toast with Goats Chevre, Sumac Dukkah & Beetroot Hummus, Sauteed Middle Eastern Cauliflower, Kale, and Chickpea Hash, and Smoked & Braised Beef Short Ribs with spicy black beans and fried egg on Turkish bread. Lunch features Supergreen Tacos, Braised Moroccan Lamb shoulder, and Slow Cooked Middle Eastern Chicken

Coffee is from Niccolo, and my long black was strong, with hints of cocoa and roasted hazelnuts.
