Giddiup

Giddy up!

Giddiup has been at this corner spot on Coventry Streets for half a decade now, but it looks fresh as a daisy. It’s the big brother of Wynyard, another South Melbourne café that’s just off busy Clarendon Street. Giddiup has a minimalist interior, and its simplicity has a calming effect.  Milk crates serve as makeshift tables, and the copper vessels from artist Laura Clauscen are displayed throughout the café- just look up!

You can grab a quick bite in the form of a bagel, pastry, or readymade baguettes from the front counter, or sit and choose from the menu, which is as simple as the fit out. The Breakfast menu features Cinnamon & Chai spiced toast with single origin espresso mascarpone; Smoked Trout Rillettes with fennel salad; Smokin’ BBQ glazed pork with Dutch cream potatoes; and cheesy stuffed mushrooms with rosemary pesto.  Lunch options include Pork of Beef Burgers, a selection of salads and baguettes, and Tuscan Vegetable soup. For the kiddies, there’s House made Peanut butter and jelly English muffins, and the Lil Tikes cheddar toasties. In try “Giddy up” form, coffee and meals come out quickly, without compromising freshness and quality.

Coffee is sourced from Sydney’s Single Origin Roasters’, and they have two blends and single origin beans for filter coffee.  The Reservoir blend is composed of beans from Costa Rica & Rwanda, and has a vibrant acidity, with a clean finish. The Killerbee blend is made up of beans from India, Ethiopia, Burundi, and Guatemala, and is a much sweeter coffee, with toffee flavours, and a creamy body.
