Boosa

Give me Boosa!

Bentleigh East and its surrounding areas have recently seen a proliferation of cafes, and rightfully so. It’s a pocket of the south eastern suburbs thats filled with folks crying out for the calibre of eatery’s common to inner suburbs like Fitzroy. Boosa is the third venture for husband wife team Eitam and Tammy, whom I first met at their initial Caulfield spot, Einstein’s 251. Their approach to Boosa is a stark contrast to the unrefined fit out at Einsteins. Designed by Kestie Lane Studios, Boosa is refined, and combined dusty pink tiles, pale timber furnishings, and brass features throughout. The name was inspired by the Arabic word for Kiss, which Tammy and Eitam fondly recall their grandparents using when they were children. Hence the “Give me Boosa” art on the shelves. If you look down when you enter the heavy steel framed door, you will actually see brass inlay “ XO ” in polished concrete floor. The soft shade of pink tiles that embellish the front counter add colour without overwhelming the environment, and allow for a sense of warmth thats accentuated by the warm lighting and American Oak panels.

The Kitchen is lined with white brick walls, and has Middle Eastern inspired semi-circular arches with black steel and greenery, behind which carefully crafted meals are prepared. That Middle Eastern theme continues into the menu, which features some cleverly named dishes.  All day options include Cauli Power hash with shawarma spiced bacon and goats yoghurt; Eggs Benefit with crispy kale and Tunisian grilled eggplants; and Open Sesame Chicken shawarma in mini pitas. They also have a Panna cotta style Malabi with homemade granola and orange blossom jelly; Brioche French toast with two way halva and chocolate cream; and Smoky Lamb Sliders.

Coffee is from Five Senses, and extracted via a sleek Synesso MVO Hydra. The Hi Fidelity blend serves as the espresso house blend, which is composed of Ethiopian and Brazilian beans. It had rich caramel tones, and a smooth body both with and without milk.

Batch brew is also available, and today’s offering was a washed Nicaraguan, which had honeycomb sweetness, and hints of dried figs.

Asides from coffee, they have Turmeric Latte, Warm Halva served with pistachio fairy floss, Turkish delight shakes, and the Snow White shake with white chocolate.

Give me Boosa anyday xo

  1. I can’t believe the amount of wankers lining up to get in. There’s a Chinese fella making coffee a few doors down and it’s brilliant and unpretentious.
