I was Hard Pressed to find Specialty Coffee in East Melbourne…… Well, that was until I discovered this gem of a cafe.
Hard Pressed is famed for its Latino inspired menu, and its popular “El Cubano” Sandwich, which is packed with orange braised pork, swiss cheese, pickles & dijon mustard.
Its also where you can get a decent French Press coffee, using single origin beans from Maker Fine in Richmond.
The decor is eclectic; half the cafe boasts exposed red brick walls, and the other half is lined with white glossy tiles. A large industrial mixer greets you as you walk in, and a La Marzocco gb5 is nestled behind it. The rear dining area is separated by mid century concrete breeze blocks, the kind you usually find outdoors. The back wall is lined with fern patterned wallpaper, and warm lighting creates a laid back vibe.
The all day Brunch menu features Avocado Salsa & Hazelnut Dukkah; White Corn & Potato Arepas; Quesadillas; Matcha Waffles; and a selection of Tortas served on ciabatta.
I sat at the front window looking out onto Wellington Parade, watching the trams traverse to and fro the city, with the iconic MCG as a backdrop.
