Lights in the Attic

A light shines bright on Camberwell Road, and its guiding foodies and bean hunters alike, to this beacon in Hawthorn.

Lights in the Attic is anything but gloomy. Soon as you walk throigh the glass doors of this ground level venue the first thing that will strike you is its bright airy feel. This is mainly due to the natural light beaming through the windows, as well as the white tiled counter, and pale timber furnishings.  The fit out has a touch of industrial chic, and scatered greenery does accentuate its fresh feel.

Coffee is served in a variety of ways- Espresso through the LaMarzooco fb80, v60 pour overs, and cold drip. Sourced from Atomica, their signature blend is a dark roast, with a heavy body. I went for the single origin from Maling Room, which was a washed Colombia. Ax a long black, it had sparkling acidity and raisin like flavours.

The menu is Asian influenced, and creatively designed. Theres the Birds Nest, which are Scotch eggs on a potato nest with free range kransky chilli beans; the Finding Nemo Smoked Ocean Trout scrambled eggs with fish bonito; and the Mr Bean sweetsoy vegetable mix, mock meat, and crunchy beans on beetroot cured tofu. They are have light breakfast options, such as French Toast, and Ricotta & Ham croissants.
