Bloom is Carlton’s latest coffee bar, brought to us by Darren Yee, who started his career in coffee with Coffee Hit, followed by a stint at Auction Rooms, and Filter. It seems an appropriate area to grow third wave coffee, considering Carlton played an important roles in Melbourne’s second wave of coffee. The name bloom is taken from the pour over brewing process, whereby the coffees gases are released as the water initially makes contact with the coffee bed. Much like this stage of brewing, Bloom Coffee Bar is fresh, and possesses its own beautiful.
Coffee is from Small Batch, and a selection of pastries and sandwiches are available. However, as the name suggests, Coffee is at the forefront of this 10 day old space. The Candyman blend is available for milk based espresso, while single origin beans rotate weekly for black coffee.
Today’s espresso single origin was the Kenyan Ngurueri, which is a washed mixed SL varietal that boasts toffee apple and cherry highlights.
Filter coffee options include the Ethiopian Aricha, which is a washed processed offering from Yirgacheffe, with subtle tea nuances, and citrus acidity; and the Guatemalan El Pilar, which is a washed bourbon that tastes much like praline and sweet milk chocolate.
