Docasa is Ivanhoes Department of Coffee and Social Affairs, brought to us by Rik LoNigro. Riks been a cafe operator for years, in Mt Bulla, on the Sunshine Coast, and locally in Greensborough. He thought it was time to take Mansfield Coffee Merchants to Melbourne, along with a taste of his Italian heritage.
The stylish fit out is by Zunica Design, and features ample greenery, brass fitting, marble, and terrazzo floors. The space is drenched in sunlight, thanks to the large floor to ceiling windows, and the ceiling is a deep teal colour, which serves as a great contrast to the fresh white wall tiles.
The menu has a Mediterranean accent, with breakfast options that include the Buffalo Yoghurt Panacotta; Cheese Polenta cakes with cultivated mushrooms, Cotechino Sausage hot-pot; Ancient Roman Meatballs served with grilled pane di casa; and seared scallops with Italian sausage, and squid ink aioli. Lunch ranges from Pan fried Gnocchi with tiger prawns; 2 hour slow roasted lamb shoulder; and Veal Cotaletta (just like nonna used to cook!).
There’s beer from DOS Blockos, Birra Moretti, and Prickly Moses in Otway; as well as locally and internationally sourced wine.
Coffee is from Mansfield Coffee Merchant, and the Bueller’s Blend is in the hoppers. This blend is designed to work well with or without milk, and is composed of beans from Peru, Brazil, and Honduras. My long black had a solid body, with dark chocolate notes.
