Welcome to Bentleigh East, Humble Creatures. It’s been a long time coming, for Eric Luong and partner Tiffany. Many of you may remember Eric when he was slinging shots behind the La Marzocco Strada at The Maling Room in Canterbury. He’s spent the best part of three years building up his dream, and earlier this year found the perfect space in the humble backstreets of this south eastern suburb. With the prowess of Jason from Iamnotmason , these humbles creatures converted what was once a South African beef jerky store, into a stylish cafe. The fit out boasts custom made Cypress furnishings with raw steel frames, polished concrete flooring, and clean white walls.
The La Marzocco Linea PB pumps out the Symmetry blend for all white coffees, and rotating single origin beans from Symmetry Coffee Roasters (Formerly known as The Maling Room). Batch brew is also available, and today’s filter option was the Honey processed El Salvador Los Pirineos. From its buttery mouthfeel, to its pineapple highlights, the Los Pirineos made for an ideal filter coffee.
In true Tess Presso fashion, I couldn’t resist the naturally processed Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Aricha as a shortie. It stood up to the occasion, loaded with jammy tropical fruit tones, and a creamy body.
Sweets from Proof is in the Pudding, as well as a selection of pastries adorn the glass cabinet atop the front counter. Humble Creatures is open 7 days a week, from 7am to 4pm, and their full menu will kick in next week.
