Today we welcome Le Clec, Hawthorns latest cafe on busy Glenferrie Road. Owner Changquing Zhan has taken the home of “Once a Tailor”, and given it a complete overhaul. Gone are the chandeliers, and dark colour scheme; and in comes a fresh space, with glossy white tiles, warm timber features, and a sleek Black Eagle pumping out Five Senses coffee. Don’t be deceived by the frontage, this venue extends out back, with ample dining space. Theirs sparkling water on tap, and a menu that offers some of Melbourne’s favourites with a twist. Theres the Pavlova panna cotta with poached strawberries; Banana Gingerbread Friandes with rhubarb semifreddo and fluffy blueberry espuma; Chipotle scrambled eggs with bacon crumble; and Pork Bao Benedict with sticky glazed pork belly.
White coffee drinkers will enjoy the Hi Fidelity blend, composed of Colombian and Ethiopian beans, that make for a rich cup, with a velvety body. I was in luck, with this weeks single origin offering coming to us from Ethiopia. My long black was made from the Ethiopian Ardi, which had a jammy body, with berry highlights.
