With its new owners, and over a year of operation under its belt, Trei continues to provide a fresh space on busy Blackburn Road. Its no surprise Trei is always packed to the rafters, considering its location has been barren lands when it comes to cafes serving specialty coffee and clean eats.
This Glen Waverley cafe is named Trei because it was the original owners third project, having sister cafes Sardi & Muharam in Hawthorn. Sarah has since moved on to Chapter Four.
The menu is filled with wholesome all day breakfast options, from Smashed avo on soy & quinoa loaf; right through to Coconut hotcakes with toasted pistachios and blueberries. For the avid clean eats foodie, Trei offers a Nourish bowl that’s both vegan and dairy free; as well as healthy smoothies. A sample from the smoothies list include the ‘Matcha Madness’ with chia, banana, lime, and apple juice; and the ‘Snickers’, with almond mylk nuzest clean and lean protein, peanut butter, and rice malt. Then there’s lunch; think Pulled Lamb Burgers on beet buns; Fried Chicken Baos; and Sweet Potato Fries.
I was passing through while visiting a supplier in Nunawading, so I only had a brief moment to fully absorb the vibe. Trei is a breath of fresh air, and a long overdue eatery for those living in this stretch of Glen Waverley.
Coffee is by Niccolo, and has the traditional Italian style espresso flavour. My long black had a big body, and a typically dark roast profile. Staff were as charming as the decor, which I do appreciate during a busy period. It takes little effort to greet each person with a genuine smile, yet leaves a lasting impression. Such is a case, for this coffee enthusiast.
