Originally, this South Yarra spot was the creation of Nathan Toleman, Ben Clark and Diamond Rozakeas. They went on to open Top Paddock, Kettle Black, and Higher Ground. Since its opening in 2012, Two Birds One Stone has gone on to consistently draw the crowds, and has changed hands in the process. It still remains a classy stylish venue, down a narrow street behind busy Toorak Road in South Yarra.
The décor is highlighted by clean white tiles, warm timber features, white panelled walls, private booths with stained glass panels, and distinctive handcrafted lighting by Christopher Boots.
Coffee is sourced from Five Senses, with both espresso, and filter options on the menu that rotate regularly. My long black was made using the Sumatran Tiga Raja, which is from a group of small producers in the region of Simalungun. This typica varietal grows at around 1400 meters above sea level, and is wet hulled. It results in a bright coffee, with orange and earthy tones.
If you’re after a feed, then their menu is sure to cater for any sized appetite. All day options includes Ricotta pancakes with rhubarb and raspberry compote; Twice cooked Brioche French Toast with chocolate sauce and banana; and Pan seared Salmon with potato rosti.
