Top Paddock

Home Sweet Home.

After some time away, it’s always nice to settle back in with some Melbourne style coffee. Where else but Top Paddock, one of Melbourne’s most popular cafes. The line out the door every morning is a sure sign of how busy this Church Street spot can get. Thankfully I get in early, and the friendly staff aren’t shy of the camera.  I usually fix my gaze on the sleek white powder coated Synesso on the white tiled bar.

On the menu was a Colombian, and a Rwandan single origin roasted by Square One Coffee. I went for the Rwandan as a Long Black.

In my cup?

Rwanda Mbilima.

This washed Red Bourbon is from the town of Musasa, and grows at around 2000 meters above sea level.  Mbilima is a washing station that’s a part of the Dukunde Kawa Co-Operative, which is predominantly run by females. The team here know exactly how to work this Rwandan, and extracted it with precision, delivering a cup free from bitterness, and full of sweet maple and marmalade highlights.
