It’s a dogs life, right?
At the norther end of Drummond Street in Carlton, there’s a hound with its senses of smell fixed chiefly on all thinks caffeinated. Coffee here is sourced from Code Black in Brunswick, where the original owner of the café, Vincent, now roasts.
Vincent stands out from the crowd with its dynamic white Della Corte Pro espresso machines. It’s the only one of its kind in Melbourne, and sits next to a pair of DC One grinders, and an EK43. They also have filter brewing gear, for those who prefer a pour over or Aeropress brew.
I was offered the Ethiopian Idido, which is a naturally processed lot from the Yirgacheffe region. This coffee was grown at high altitudes of up to 2100 meters above sea level, and sun dried in thin layers on raise beds.
The barista extracted the coffee at low pressure, which resulted in a cup that was free from bitterness. My long black actually had all the sweet fruit flavours I love in pour over coffee; with the addition of body. As it cooled, the berry flavours became more pronounced, and I indulged in a cup that possessed delightful strawberry and cream notes.
