Until I met Lachy Evans, owner and head roaster at Moto Bean, I didn’t even know where Malmsbury was. He opened a café here a few years ago, which is almost 100 km North West of Melbourne. Lachy and his wife Laura have a great team behind them, with young Josh who is fresh out of school and already has an eye on his very own La Marzocco Linea Mini for home. I have never met a 16 year old who is so passionate about coffee- it was awe-inspiring to see that the future of coffee is safe – if these are the individuals who will be the driving force behind it.
They roast their own beans on a Has Garanti, for both their own café and wholesale accounts. I couldn’t knock-back a naturally processed Rwandan, from the Remera washing station. I have been drinking Rwandan coffee for a few years now, but as far as I am aware, this is the first naturally processed Red Bourbon from Buf coffee. It was grown between 1750 and 2100 metres above sea level, and is stunning to say the least. Extracted meticulously through the new La Marzocco Linea PB, my long black was loaded with sweet strawberry and raspberry notes, and finished with hints of chocolate; reminding me of a Strawberry Freddo Frog.
Say hello to Moto if you’re even in Malmsbury…. and enjoy the classic motorcycles while you’re there!
