Coffee Hybrid Cupping with Condesa

Last nights talk on the future of coffee varieties was both informative and promising.

A selection of coffee hybrids were discussed and cupped, which included the Centroamericano (Sarchimor x Rume Sudan parentage); the Marsellesa (Timor Hybrid x Villa Sarchi parentage); and the Starmaya (Marsellesa x Ethiopian mutant that is sterile).

The Starmaya is set to be a game changer for coffee producers. It’s unique in that it is the first hybrid varietal that is propagated by seed, rather than biotechnology.

The best thing about it is that it’s high yielding, disease resistance, and from what I experienced- tastes pretty good.
