Introducing Melbourne’s latest and hottest café: Bentwood.
A year and a half in the making, and it finally opened its doors this week.
Bentwood is brought to us by the aptly labelled ‘multimillion-dollar barista’ Julien Moussi, and his team of business gurus. Many Melbournians would know their work from My Other Brother in Camberwell, Penta in Elsternwick, and Tinker in Northcote (to name but a few). This marks this 11th café, and its name pays homage to the buildings history, which once housed a furniture manufacturer that was home of the Bentwood chair.
Apart from its curated interior, I was charmed by the brand new customised Sanremo Racer and trio of grinders in a burning brier tone, which match the ceiling and steal panels throughout the venue. Coffee is roasted by Inglewood, with the Roosevelt Blend for milk based coffee, and rotating single origin beans for black coffee.
I was pleased to see an Ethiopian natural Sidamo on the menu, which as an espresso was highlighted by sweet strawberry jam like tones.
Food wise, expect the calibre of dishes common to Tinker, Penta, and My Other Brother- flavour filled, and extremely instagrammable. Think Butterfly Blue Tea Chia Pudding; Chilli Scrambled Eggs; Hotcakes with raspberry curd; and the cleverly named Bikini Salad.
Congratulations to the team on yet another Melbourne establishment that ticks all the boxes.
