“Mix a little mystery with everything, for mystery arouses veneration”.
I’ve always been the sort of person who values respect far more than popularity, and its proven a rewarding way of being over the years. Crossing paths with this country’s vast array of coffee roasters has taught me one important lesson about veneration and humility- both are linked to success….. and hard work. Valeri from Mikro Coffee Roasters certainly has mastered the latter, and I have no doubt he’ll soon reap the rewards of his determination. If nothing else, he’s already a success. His latest offering from La Ponderosa in Panama has demonstrated that in spades.
This naturally processed gesha also demonstrates the clear passion of its farmer, Gilberto Cardoze. Its aromatics are reminiscent of a strawberry and raspberry jam, which follows through into the cup- with the addition of sweet honey highlights.
A big thank you to Val for sharing these beans, which he will be competing with at the Australian Barista Championship next week. Interestingly, he also entered it into the 2018 RASV Australian International Coffee Awards, which I may well have sampled while judging last week. The mystery will be revealed next week.
