Mr Tucci

Many will know brothers Fabian and Massimo Crea from their former Carnegie favourite, Santucci, which has stood the test of time for over two decades. Just as the times have changed, so have the boy’s lives. Both are now married with adorable children, and have expanded their café collection to include the Mt Waverley sanctuary ‘Son of Tucci’, and now a Glen Iris hot spot on the corner of High Street and Albion Road, overlooking the Eric Raven Reserve.

Much like all their venues, they’ve retained the family connection both in the naming of the cafe, and the sweet treats available each day on the front counter. Their mother Franca still bakes the slices and cakes daily (Which are a crowd pleaser), and again they have named their forth café after their beloved grandfather. When their Italian born Nonno Giovanni Santucci first migrated to Australia, no one could pronounce his name, so he shortened it to Tucci. Mr Tucci pays homage to this great man, who laid the foundations for this darling family.

Fabian and Massimo revamped the interior themselves, opting to remove pre-existing dark tones in exchange for a sun filled space, natural granite counter, Victorian Ash furnishings, and 1950s Australian school chairs.

Apart from coffee, their strengths lie in good old fashioned service, and wholesome menu. There’s the Sourdough Waffles with Marsala roasted pear; the hearty Baked Eggs with peperonata, and herb crusted goat’s cheese; and the 24 hour coffee spiced beef brisket burger.

Coffee is roasted by Veneziano for milk based espresso (Bond St), with rotating guest single origin beans black coffee.

They’re open 7 days a week, and have a gorgeous airy dining area to sit back and enjoy the tranquil surrounds.
